Bromley FC Community Trust welcomed the London Borough of Bromley Public Health team to the CopperJax Community Stadium today, bringing free blood pressure and pulse checks directly into the heart of our community as part of Know Your Numbers Week.
Throughout the day, local people were able to drop in, get checked and learn more about the importance of understanding and regularly monitoring their blood pressure.
It was brilliant to see such a wide cross-section of our community getting involved, including Bromley FC Academy students, Club and Community Trust staff, Ravens Chat members, participants from our Parkinson’s Walking Football sessions and local residents.
Bringing health support into the heart of our community
High blood pressure often has no obvious symptoms. Left untreated, it can increase the risk of serious health problems including heart disease, stroke and kidney disease.
That makes opportunities like today incredibly important.
By bringing simple health checks into a familiar and welcoming community setting, we can help make looking after our health feel more accessible, while starting conversations that could make a genuine difference.
Jeff Hutton, Chief Executive of Bromley FC Community Trust, said:
“Our role in the community goes far beyond football. It’s about using the reach we have and the spaces we’re fortunate to call home to create opportunities that can make a genuine difference to people’s lives.
“Today was a great example of that. A blood pressure check only takes a few minutes, but knowing your numbers can be incredibly important. If bringing that opportunity here makes it easier for even one person to take that step, then that matters.
“A huge thank you to the London Borough of Bromley Public Health team for joining us and, most importantly, to everyone from our community who came along and got involved. This is what Playing Our Part is all about.”
Know your numbers
The event formed part of Know Your Numbers Week, which runs from 7–11 September and encourages people to understand their blood pressure and take positive steps to support their long-term health and wellbeing.
If you weren’t able to join us today, you can still get your blood pressure checked. Speak to your local community pharmacy or GP practice about the checks available to you.
