Bromley FC Community Trust Hosts Heartwarming Christmas Lunch for Local Veterans

Bromley FC Community Trust brought festive cheer to its Armed Forces community last month, hosting a special Christmas Lunch for local veterans, family members and widows, with heartfelt thanks to sponsors Thamer Ltd for making it possible.

Held at Broomfields, the event offered more than just a complimentary two course meal. It was a warm, welcoming celebration of community, filled with conversation, laughter and meaningful connection. A highlight of the afternoon was a bagpiper performance, which added a special touch to the day and was warmly received by everyone in the room.

The lunch is part of the Trust’s wider work to support those connected to the Armed Forces. Thanks to the generous backing of local family business Thamer Ltd, the Trust was able to reach beyond its core network and extend the invitation to veterans living in care homes, offering transport where needed to ensure no one missed out.

Jeff Hutton, Chief Executive of Bromley FC Community Trust, said: “The meal was a chance to honour the stories, friendships and experiences of those who have served, and to remind them they are always part of our community. We are deeply thankful to Thamer Ltd for helping us bring everyone together in such a meaningful way.”

The Trust’s Veterans Hub continues to grow, offering regular drop ins, events and social opportunities designed to tackle isolation and build belonging. The Hub meets on the last Friday of every month from 11am to 1pm in Broomfields at Bromley Football Club. No booking is needed, veterans are warmly welcome to turn up on the day. For more information, contact: Graham.Orr@bromleyfc.org – The next Veterans Hub will take place on Friday 26 January.

The community also comes together through Military Veterans Football, a weekly session held every Wednesday at 6pm on the 3G pitches at Bromley Football Club. It is a chance to stay active, make friends and enjoy the game in a supportive and welcoming environment. Just before Christmas, our Veterans squad played their first ever friendly match against Millwall Military Vets, a brilliant evening full of energy, camaraderie and community spirit.

To register for Veterans Football, contact Gary.Thompson@bromleyfc.org – The next Military Veterans Football session will take place on Wednesday 14th January.

Whether it is football, conversation or a shared meal, we believe in the power of connection and in always playing our part.
