Bromley Football Club Chairman Robin Stanton-Gleaves took time this week to meet with long time supporters Roy Oliver and John Self to discuss the Club’s plans for how best to showcase the Club’s history and heritage within the stadium, as developments continue at pace.

Roy, known affectionately by supporters for being the salesman of ‘Golden Goal’ tickets for many years, has supported the Club since the 1950s, through some tough times. He prominently features in Dave Roberts’ book ‘The Bromley Boys’, and the subsequent film. He is known as a ‘book of knowledge’ to supporters and staff and knows everything that’s worth knowing about Bromley FC!

John has also been a supporter of the Club since the early 1950s and held various roles as in the Supporters’ Club and Football Club, where he served from 1976-1993. In more recent years, John and his family have closely followed Bromley home and away (when possible), and to this day, he provides a weekly column in the programme, often on topics surrounding the history of the Club.

Chairman Robin Stanton-Gleaves commented; “It’s been great to meet with Roy and John this week. Both of them are true Bromley stalwarts and they have seen and played their own part in the Club’s growth and progress over many years. Their time and kind donations are most appreciated, and have gone a long way to help us start the process of recognising our history and heritage in a bigger and better way, which we are in the process of planning with them both.”

Robin has already jumped at the opportunity to obtain a 1949 FA Amateur Cup winners’ medal via a sporting memorabilia auction which will add to the other items of historic interest held by the Club. 

Further memorabilia has been donated by other kind supporters and gives a unique look back at times gone by.
