MAN v FAT kicks off under the lights at Bromley FC

The South East’s newest MAN v FAT club kicked off on Monday under the lights at Bromley FC’s Hayes Lane stadium.

Over 60 participants have made the commitment to change their lives via our weight loss football league in the Borough.

The FA-endorsed MAN v FAT Football scheme has helped men lose more than 300,000 lbs. Local men who want to tackle their weight issues, now have the chance to join this incredibly successful weight loss league. With 95% of players losing weight, with some players losing up to 70lbs during a 14 week schedule, it’s no wonder that the programmes have been so popular and won several awards, including the ukactive Healthy Community Award.

Set up by Andrew Shanahan, who himself lost five stone, was fed-up with weight loss classes aimed just at women, MAN v FAT Football combines the beautiful game with easy to follow diet and lifestyle advice as well as 24/7 support. There’s the traditional weigh-ins before each game, but this is then followed-up by a 30 minute game of six-a-side football. Extra goal bonuses are awarded depending on the pounds lost by the players, so it becomes a real team effort. With players choosing team names, examples include Largentina, Pork Vale, Bayern Monster Munchen and Hugeventus – it’s clear that the men enjoy the opportunity to get back on the pitch.

MAN v FAT South East Regional Manager Dan Church said, “We are delighted to be able to work alongside Bromley Football Club and their fantastic Community Trust to deliver our men’s weight loss football league in the Borough of Bromley. Using the power of sport and the support within the community, guys in the local area will be able to show fat the red card.”

Jeff Hutton, Director of Charity & Community, added “A big thanks goes to Dan and the team at MAN v FAT for such a successful launch and a big thanks must also go to the National League Trust whose continued support has made this fantastic scheme possible.

“I also think it sums up Bromley Football Club rather well, that one of the first uses of our brand new state-of-the-art LED stadium floodlights was not for a First Team fixture against a Premier League side, but for a brand new community initiative supporting healthier lifestyles.”
