The Community Trust team have been out visiting local Bromley primary schools since the start of the new school year. During the first half term, our Head of Community, Matt Hall, the community team, as well as players from both the Men’s and Women’s first team have visited a number of schools across the borough.

September saw the Trust continue to build on our successful after school football provision. We were excited to start sessions at local schools, Oak Lodge, Unicorn, Darrick Wood, Wickham Common, St James and delighted to start our first girls’ only after school club at Pickhurst Academy. With over 330 children attending, across the schools, each week, we have enjoyed delivering fun and engaging sessions, to both boys and girls from age 4 to 11.

Off the pitch we held assemblies at over ten schools. With both the FA Trophy and the Women’s League Cup on show, pupils at all the schools had the opportunity to find out more about Bromley’s success both on and off the pitch. First team players from the Men’s and Women’s team also came along to talk about their life as a footballer and answer questions on all things from their diet to how many keepie uppies they can do! And to make the occasion even more special each pupil was given a free ticket to both a Men’s and Women’s game at Hayes Lane.

PE Lead, Zoe Bromfield of Crofton Junior School commented “It is great to see so many children inspired by football. It has been brilliant for them to see the trophies and find out more about our local football team”.

Our community outreach work has not stopped there. We have also delivered football PE lessons for primary schools. With over 200 children, from Reception to Year 6, our lessons have focused on introducing football skills to the next generation of Harry Kane’s or Leah Williamson’s. 

Women and Girls’ Development Officer, Andrea Ellis said “It has been fantastic going into the community and visiting so many schools. It is always great to talk about not only the Men’s and Women’s teams but also all the work we have going on in our community. From our family day for the Women’s FA Cup, to delivering Primary PE lessons, to our Girls Only Football Holiday Camp, we have been very busy at Hayes Lane”.

As we head towards the end of 2022, we are excited to be starting new projects with even more local schools. This half term will see the launch of our Girls’ Only lunchtime club at Valley Primary, as well as our Breakfast Football Club sessions at Highfield Juniors. We cannot wait to work with these schools and their pupils.

At Bromley FC Community Sports Trust our team have partnered with schools to deliver assemblies, teach PE lessons and run after school clubs. Since September we have invited over 4,000 children to our men’s and women’s football matches at Bromley FC through our free ticket scheme.
