Bromley FC Community Trust is proud to announce the appointment of Gary Thompson as its newest Trustee.

Gary brings over four decades of combined service in the British Army and London Fire Brigade, as well as deep community ties and a passion for mentoring. In his current role as an Army Recruiting and Mentoring Support Officer, Thomo, as he is affectionately known by many at the Community Trust, works to open doors for others—particularly young people from care-experienced backgrounds, reflecting his own lived experience.

A champion for inclusion and resilience, Gary has long been a visible and trusted presence at Bromley FC. Through his volunteering with Bromley Y, mentoring local young people, and championing the Veterans Hub at the club, he has already played a powerful role in the Trust’s mission to connect and uplift our community.

Gary shared: “I’m absolutely honoured and delighted to become a Trustee for Bromley FC Community Trust. I’m really looking forward to working with Jeff, Graham, and the rest of the team to engage with and support our community.”

Graham Orr, Chair of Trustees, welcomed the news: “Gary has already made a deep impact through his hands-on work with our veteran community, and his commitment to the values of service, inclusion, and action perfectly reflect the spirit of the Trust. We’re thrilled to have him join us in this formal capacity.”

Jeff Hutton, Chief Executive of Bromley FC Community Trust, added: “Gary is more than a volunteer—he’s a role model, a leader, and a tireless advocate for those who often go unheard. His military and civic service bring a rare perspective, and his passion for community is infectious. We’re proud to welcome him to our Board of Trustees, and excited for what’s ahead.”

Gary’s appointment is set to further strengthen the Trust’s commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, and its wider mission to support veterans, mentor young people, and build a community where everyone can belong and thrive. With his lived experience, leadership, and unwavering compassion, Gary represents the very heart of what Bromley FC Community Trust stands for.
