Veterans Football Team Take Major Step Forward

Bromley FC Community Trust’s Military Veterans Football team took another positive step forward last weekend, as Millwall FC Community Trust kindly hosted our veterans for a competitive fixture at The Den.

The match marked an important milestone in the continued development of the programme, bringing together two community trusts committed to supporting those who have served.

A sincere thank you to Sean Daly, Chief Executive of Millwall Community Trust, and Jon Scarborough for their warm hospitality and for making the occasion such a positive experience for everyone involved.

Our veterans delivered a strong and spirited team performance against Millwall Military Vets, who currently hold the EFL Veterans Cup. The fixture reflected the progress being made through weekly training sessions and the growing unity within the squad.

The programme has been made possible thanks to funding from the Veterans’ Foundation, whose support has enabled the Trust to provide kit, equipment and structured sessions for local veterans.

The initiative is led by Trustee Gary Thompson, supported by Chair of Trustees Graham Orr.

Graham Orr said: “I’m absolutely delighted to see Gary’s hard work and dedication pay off. Today’s match reflects countless wet Wednesday training sessions over the past few months, his commitment to reaching out to the younger veterans in our community, and building this from the ground up. This is just the beginning, and we’re excited to see where it leads. Well done, Gary if anyone can, VeteransCan.”

Reaching Younger Veterans

Bromley is home to one of the largest veteran populations in London. While many older veterans are already engaged through our Veterans Hub, the football programme has been created to help attract and support younger veterans who may have left service in the past 20 years and are looking to reconnect.

Training takes place every Wednesday from 6 to 7pm at the CopperJax Community Stadium. Sessions are free and open to all who have served.

Veterans Hub This Friday

Our next Veterans Hub takes place this Friday (27th Feb) at Broomfields from 11am. The Hub continues to provide a welcoming and supportive space for ex service personnel of all ages, and everyone is welcome.

Together, we are building something meaningful for our Armed Forces community and this is only the beginning.
