Women’s Football Festivals Kick Off

Last month both our Belles’ Walking and Recreational footballers took part in the first of their summer festivals.

Our Womens’ walking football team attended AFC Wimbledon’s annual event. In only their second ever festival the players put on a great show, with the team scoring their first ever goal at a festival – a beautiful strike into the bottom right of the net from Maria.

Sue, who joined the walking football sessions last year said, “It’s fabulous to play with a group of ladies, of a certain age, with a passion for the beautiful game. It was great to see the improvement our team has made in such a short time, from scoring our first goal to creating lots of chances. I loved every minute”.
On the same weekend the recreational players from Belles took part in the South Coast Recreational festival with three teams representing Bromley.

Andrea Ellis, Head of Women and Girls added ”It is great to see so many women, especially those that have not played before, taking part in these festivals. They give everyone an opportunity to be part of a team and to experience playing in matches with other like-minded women”.

The Community Trust runs two women’s recreational sessions each week; a walking and running session. You do not need any previous experience in football, everyone is welcome. These sessions are led by female coaches and involve learning new skills and most of all having fun.
