What is your role at Bromley FC?
I play as a goalkeeper for Bromley Womens FC and have done so for the past 3 seasons…….. I love it here. I also love getting involved with community projects, visiting kids at local school to encourage girls into football. Bromley have also supported me with my coaching course to hopefully pursue a career in coaching beyond my playing days!
How long have you been involved in football?
I have been playing for as long as I can remember, in little leagues, boys leagues, 5 aside, 11 aside, a number of different local teams. I also manage an under 13 girls’ team outside of Bromley so my time is stretched but I have to say there is nothing more rewarding than facilitating a sport that makes kids smile and laugh, their happiness is my happiness honestly! Its cliche I know!
What has been your experience of being involved or working in football?
It has always been positive, everything that I have put in I have got back. My dad and 3 brothers were football mad and so was I, but I wish there were the opportunities for girls football when I was younger as there are now as maybe I wouldn’t be doing the job I’m doing!
What have you enjoyed most about being involved with football?
I love it all, the physical and mental wellbeing, the social, the competitiveness, the sport, the fans, the drama, the emotion.
It’s just a sport that has it all, team work and moment of individual brilliance too, there is nothing I would get up on a cold, wet Sunday morning for and travel over 5 hours in 1 day for.
Either playing, coaching or managing, I love it all.
What advice would you give someone wanting to work or get involved in football?
DO IT NOW! Now is the time to be involved in Womens’ football and the more women involved the bigger our voice and influence becomes, we have a long way to go before things are completely equal but I have a few years in me yet to make a difference and I will continue to dedicate as much of my time to keep the flame alight!
